Beam instrumentation is used to control the LHC beams and their properties (position, intensity and size), which need to be accurately measured.
WP13 bees are in charge of the beam instrumentation, which is the “eye” of the accelerator that transmits to the operators in the control centre. The wide array of beam instrumentation, with which the LHC is equipped, played an important role in its commissioning, and has been crucial to its rapid intensity ramp-up and safe and reliable operation. Now, it’s time to upgrade it!
These bees are working in unison with bees from Russia, UK and WP2, WP3, WP4 and WP15.
