Some bees have to ensure that the debris resulting from the particles colliding in the experiments do not interfere with the particles still circulating inside the accelerator.
WP8 bees are responsible for the equipment that interfaces the machine with the Experiments (equipment that acts as an interface between the machine and the experiments). They use mechanical protective equipment to absorb the debris, radiation, or other potential issues that may have an impact on the equipment installed in the LHC near the interaction points, and, they are also in charge of the design of the beam pipe in the experimental areas.
In short: their main task is to protect the equipment that is near the points where the collisions happen.
